MAKING A BOOK IS LIKE BREAKING GLASS

First, the solid pane of glass.

i can see to the other side,

See the possibilities ahead...

But I can't break through.

I search for an idea, strong and hard,

Robust enough to destroy the glass.

Fracturing it is not enough...

I must smash through.

Next begins the meticulous, painstaking job

Of extracting each sharp shard:

To pass through the breach

Without being torn to shr

THE SEA GIVES BACK OUR GIFTS

This print was created for an invitational print exchange and exhibition at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art (exCHANGE).  An environmental issue that I have been deeply concerned about is the 'garbage sea' in the North Pacific Ocean.  This print was in response to the human detritus that I see on my beach walks.
